Slider Coffee Table
English Oak from the New Forest
100cm (160cm open) x 50cm x 47cm

Once upon a time, a very long time ago, about last Friday (yes, this is a quote from A. A. Milne's Winnie the Pooh),
computers were big, cumbersome grey boxes that took up most of the desk in the spare room..

Now we have laptops and notebooks and tablets and iPods and smartphones
and many variations and combinations of such devices: they have colonised the whole house.

So: you're sitting on the sofa watching a programme on the tv,
keeping tabs on comments on Twitter and playing a game on your phone.
Where do you put them when you want your living room to look tidy and ready for visitors?
That is the question that sparked the design of the slider coffee table.

When closed it's a tidy, almost traditional coffee table in English Oak.
But the drawer hides several sockets to keep all your chargers handy,
and all the various devices can be stored on the lower shelf.
Slide the top along (yes, it is has been tested:
you can leave your mug of coffee on the top while you slide it - it wont spill)
and you have them all at your fingertips.

This table was awarded second place in the
Fine Crafted Wood Competition at the 2009 New Forest Show.

After the New Forest Show I was approached by some clients: they liked the overall shape and lines of the slider table but they needed something more akin to a nest of tables.
